Increasing note is being taken of the danger associated with a person hanging motionless after a fall.

This condition is known as orthostatic shock and occurs largely owing to disturbed circulation of the blood because of constriction from safety harness straps.

This short module describes the causes of suspension trauma and sets out specific actions to both prevent its onset and to deal with a casualty with the condition.
