Confined Space Entry training course provides participants with knowledge and practical skills to allow a person to enter basic confined spaces safely, for the purpose of carrying out light maintenance or inspection work.

The Confined Space Entry – Escape BA training course is for those who will enter confined spaces which do not normally require the use of portable breathing apparatus but who may use gas detection monitors and / or portable escape sets in emergency situations.

During this course, participants will gain experience of narrow, constricted environments (with unexpected blackout) and will rescue a colleague.

This course also includes the use of gas monitoring and an escape set.

Course elements covered include:

  • Legal, personal, medical requirements for confined space entry
  • Characteristics of confined spaces – what is a confined space?
  • Duties and requirements of a Vessel Entry Sentry
  • Types of personal protective equipment
  • Types of rescue equipment
  • Care, inspection and maintenance of equipment
  • Gas monitoring, awareness of atmospheric hazards
  • Characteristics of escape sets
  • Use of confined space escape BA sets

Practical skills covered in this course include:

  • Safe fitting of harness
  • Use of vertical safety systems.
  • Confidence when exposed to constricted, dark environment
  • Use of stretchers
  • Carry out a casualty recovery
  • Use of gas detector
  • Use of escape sets

Due to the nature of this course, participants should be comfortable with exposure to dark and constricted environments and should not suffer from claustrophobia.

Safety footwear required for all practical sessions.

The Confined Space Entry – Escape BA training course certificate is valid for a three year period. After this, a revalidation of the course will be required.

It is the participants/bookers responsibility to ensure that all relevant pre-requisites are met to attend this course and that the evidence is provided on the first day of the course e.g. in-date certificates for revalidation courses.

Failure to meet any of these pre-requisites may result in the participant being asked to leave the course. No refund will be given in this event.
