Major Turbine Manufacturers Exceed 100+ Gigawatt Capacity

New Data Released From Global Wind Energy Council

On May 14th 2026, the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) announced that five major manufacturers have exceeded the 100+ gigawatts of wind power capacity, as data demonstrates a steep increase in turbine installations. The annual Global Wind Market Development Supply Side Data Report details that 28,395 new turbines were installed in 2025. Compiled by the GWEC, these findings depict a 25% increase from the year before.

Vestas continues to hold the largest cumulative installed capacity among turbine manufacturers. The Danish manufacturer became the first company to surpass 200+ gigawatts, achieving this in 2025. However, Envision becomes the fifth manufacturer to exceed 100 GW of cumulative installations, joining Vestas, Goldwind, Siemens Gamesa and GE Vernova. The GWEC’s CEO, Ben Backwell, has commented on this rise in wind turbine capacity. Noting the increase, he evaluates that ‘the global wind industry is responding to meet heightened demand’.

This comes after a previous GWEC report stating that Europe’s total wind power capacity reached over 300 gigawatts in 2025. The report established Germany and Turkey as areas with particularly high levels of growth. Key data published by the GWEC predicts that although China will ‘drive an estimated 63% of new installations in 2026’, the market is expected to become more varied by 2030. For example, regions outside of China are estimated to produce ‘more than half of global growth’. With such a range of wind turbine manufacturers causing an increase in wind power, global capacity is set to reach 2 Terawatts by 2029.
