heightec manufactures safety harnesses designed for a wide range of work-at-height, including fall arrest and rescue applications.
Correctly fitting a full-body harness is critical to ensuring the safety, comfort and effectiveness of any work-at-height system. As a core component of work-at-height equipment, a full-body harness is designed to distribute fall arrest forces across the body in a controlled manner, helping to reduce the risk of serious injury in the event of a fall.
This video demonstrates best practice for measuring a full body harness, helping ensure the harness is correctly adjusted for real working conditions.
Why correct measurement matters
An ill-fitting harness can lead to poor load distribution, discomfort during use, increased risk of suspension intolerance. Accurate adjustment helps reduce these risks and supports both safety and compliance.
Fitting should always be taken:
-
over normal work clothing
-
with the webbing snug but not tight
-
allowing for natural movement
Choosing the right size of harness:
-
Torso measurement (A):
Measure from the top of the shoulder, down the front of the body, to the inseam crotch area. The individual should be standing upright and straight to avoid incorrect sizing. -
Waist measurement (B):
Measure fully around the waist to ensure the harness sits securely without restricting breathing or movement. -
Thigh measurements (C):
Measure around the upper thigh in a complete circular or loop measurement. Correctly sized leg straps are essential for comfort and for supporting the body safely during a fall or suspension.
Together, these adjustments help ensure the harness fits as intended, supporting both compliance and, most importantly, worker safety.

heightec’s newest harness to be added to their range is the Helix Climber’s Harness
The new HELIX climbers harness features a unique design prioritising comfort, fit and function for an unrivalled range of user sizes. The HELIX is gender-inclusive, meaning it can be adjusted to fit both male and female body types.
Maximum adjustability:
- Uniquely tailored to accommodate all body types with five points of adjustment ensure an exceptional fit in shoulder, waist, leg, hip and back ensuring symmetry, perfect for extended use.
Ultimate support:
- Breathable low profile back panel, padded waist and leg pads provide support and protection when climbing.
- Lightweight back panel helps hold the harness in shape, protects the webbing beneath, reduces tangling and aids orientation when fitting, whilst still enabling access for inspection.
- Padded waist belt provides support and is fitted with two side D’s for work positioning. Side D’s can be folded back to reduce snagging when not in use.
Gear loops are positioned to reduce snagging risks when climbing and provide easy access, management and organisation of tools.
