Our Rescue from height – Stretcher Lowering also covers the selection of suitable anchorages, types of lowering devices, casualty care and casualty handling, rope care, and lowering methods. The use of guidelines or taglines is covered during real lowering exercises.

This rescue course includes guidance on manual handling issues and the differing requirements for horizontal and vertical orientation of the stretcher.

  • Selection of suitable anchorages
  • Abrasion and edge hazards
  • Lifelining technique
  • Lowering technique
  • Elementary pulley theory
  • Hauling technique
  • Packaging the casualty
  • Vertical and horizontal attachment to the rope system
  • Medical dangers to suspended persons

Practical skills covered in this course include:

  • Packaging the casualty in the stretcher
  • Lowering a casualty
  • Raising a casualty

Safety footwear required for all practical sessions.

Our Rescue from height – Stretcher Lowering course does not include basic working at height knowledge. It is essential that all participants are already competent in the use of fall protection equipment, including how to fit and use a harness, the need for safe connection at all times  and the use of an energy absorbing lanyard. Please consider our Using Height Safety Equipment course (Course Ref: TFP4U) if this is required.

It is the participants/bookers responsibility to ensure that all relevant pre-requisites are met to attend this course and that the evidence is provided on the first day of the course e.g. in-date certificates for revalidation courses.

Failure to meet any of these pre-requisites may result in the participant being asked to leave the course. No refund will be given in this event.

  • This course is not intended to teach the elementary use of fall protection equipment. It is essential that all candidates are already competent in such use, including understanding how to fit and use a harness, the need for safe connection at all times and the use of energy absorbing lanyard. Candidates will be required to produce suitable valid certification prior to acceptance on course.
